My only gripe, and it's a small one, is that they're a little awkward to position. These speakers produce good sound for the money. The arm that comes out of the back and the speakers themselves are rounded so the base is not a solid as it could be and since the cord is kind of stiff, the "move" if you don't give them enough slack.
They are certainly a step up in both sound quality and volume to built-in notebook speakers, and I like not having to plug in another bulky ac adapter into my already crowded power strip. Obviously low end frequencies suffer the most with such small speakers. The biggest flaw is the shoddy buttons built into the right speaker.
In other words, at softer volumes, each press of a volume button results in only slight changes in volume, while at louder volumes, each press of a volume button results in large changes in volume. To me, the product would be worth spending $30-35 on, but certainly no more than $40, let alone the $54.82 that Amazon is currently charging. Maybe it's just me, but I expect some amount of "give" to buttons when pushed, so I can actually feel that I've pushed it.
I'm surprised so few people have mentioned this in other reviews. You need to push with more force than should be necessary to get the desired effect as well.My other problem (and I supposed this could be due to some settings with my notebook computer rather than the speakers themselves) is that the volume changes are fairly subtle at the lower volumes but get pretty extreme at higher volumes.
Purchased through Amazon for $40, though I see that they are up to around $55 now. The included case is a nice feature as well.Don't expect stellar sound reproduction here though.
Not the case here, it feels as though the buttons are permanently jammed (they do give slightly, just not much).
There is no way to use headphones when these are plugged in with iTunes on Windows Visa or 7 because it uses a single audio output, and won't output to the laptop line out and these USB speakers. The big thing that is missing with these speakers is a LINE OUT. HUGE MISTAKE by Logitec not to have a line out on these.
Sound starts to distort at around 80% of max volume (which is really really loud, by the way), and the pads on the bottom of the speakers aren't nearly "sticky" enough, as they like to "walk" across my desk when the base/volume gets turned up. These little guys can fill a small/mid-sized room with their sound fairly easily, and while there is no subwoofer, the sound is still relatively deep and rich. I picked these up, and am suddenly spoiled again.Although the sound is not quite on the same level as my old desktop, it's still a lot better than your typical desktop setup. They come packed in a very nice zip-up case which does the job of protecting them while in transit, and will fit easily into most backpacks or laptop bags.As good as they are, though, they're not perfect. After spending a long time on a desktop with a top of the line sound system (audigy 2ZS sound card and klipsch speakers), I was spoiled. And when I got myself a laptop, I was utterly horrified by the wimpy sound coming from it's speakers. They're extremely easy to setup (just plug them into the nearest available USB port), and are much more portable than speakers of this quality have any right to be.
Simply hook them together and plug it into a UBS port. Sound is clean, crisp, with a reasonable amount of bass given the size of the speakers. Nice touch is the volume control on the speaker - don't have to fiddle with the computer, just set it on maximum volume the first time.To round it all off, the speakers come with a compact, hard surface traveling case; easily fits into a pocket of a laptop case. All had a small, tinny sound.I was skeptical about the reviews of these speakers and had some trepidationswhen I opened the box. Price is remarkably low given the above quality.Capt Tom Set-up could not be easier - speakers have a built-in foldout stand.
The whole package is very well thought out. I have tried several speakers for laptops. They seemed too small. To my great surprise they well exceeded my expectations. Instant stereo sound.
